Former French professional footballer Bacary Sagna will name a baby gorilla in the annual 2025 Kwita Izina event

Former Arsenal and France defender Bacary Sagna, who arrived in Kigali, will name a baby gorilla at Kwita Izina ceremony scheduled for Friday, September 5 in the foothills of Volcanoes National Park in Musanze District.

Sagna, 42, once played for the Gunners (Arsenal) between 2007 and 2014 before joining Manchester City.

He is attending the ceremony, representing Arsenal, the team that first branded Visit Rwanda on its jersey through a partnership with the Rwanda Development Board (RDB).

Sagna, who retired in 2021, will join former Paris Saint-Germain star Javier Matías Pastore at the annual ceremony, which will see 40 baby gorillas named.
