NYAMAGABE – Police at Gasaka station are holding a 22-year old man, Donat Ngabonziza, for allegedly killing his wife only identified as Francoise, on suspicion of committing adultery.

Ngabonziza is said to have killed his spouse last Friday, after allegedly catching her red-handed having sex with a neighbour.

Talking to The New Times from police, Ngabonziza admitted to the crime, saying it was accidental.

"I arrived at home in the evening only to find my wife and Munyaneza in bed, he was still wearing a condom. I wanted to attack him but he was shielded by my wife and he escaped,” he said. "In the ensuing scuffle, my wife fell and hit her head on the floor.”

Local residents on night patrol took the profusely bleeding Françoise to the nearby Nyamagabe health centre where she was pronounced dead upon arrival, neighbours said.

However, the neighbour also married, denied the allegations and said he only accompanied Francoise home upon her request.

"We met in a bar and after taking a drink, she asked me to accompany her home. Her husband found me inside the house and threatened to beat me up, I escaped,” said the neighbour who is also being held at Gasaka Police Station.

The deceased is survived by two children, aged seven and four months old.
