KARONGI – The Western province over the weekend emerged the winner of the good governance prize that was awarded by the Ministry of Local Government.

Rutsiro district emerged the overall winner and walked away with a trophy and a Rwf200, 000 cash prize.

The function held at the provincial headquarters in Karongi district was attended by representatives from Kigali City and other provinces except the Eastern province.

Sources say the Eastern province was left out after failing to meet the required conditions.

Kigali City also won Rwf50,000 for presenting the best poem amid competitive performances.

In his speech, provincial Governor, Célestin Kabahizi, congratulated the winners, challenging other participants to emulate them.

"The winners deserve praise and the rest should take lessons. Such occurrences should be received with profound interest,” Kabahizi said.

Meanwhile, it was reported that the Kamonyi district vice mayor in charge of Social Affairs Marie Alice Uwera, got an accident on her way to the function.

Uwera reportedly stepped out of her car with her other leg caught up behind. She fell and fractured her leg.

She was immediately rushed to Kibuye Hospital before later being transferred to Kigali Central Hospital (CHUK) where she is currently admitted.
