Chaos erupted on Friday, when local officials in Cyinunga, Nyabisindu cell in Remera ruled in favour of one Amon Niyonzima to take over a piece of land that he had been contesting with one Stella Umurerwa.

Some of the residents who talked to The New Times, accused the local officials of bribed into favouring Niyonzima. This comes after several meetings called by the authorities to iron out the long standing land wrangle between the two residents.

Umurerwa accuses Niyonzima of claiming her house located in the area which she says she brought for Rwf1.8 from the former owner Pierre Ncyogoza.

She alleges that she bought the three bedroom house and later relocated to Uganda where she has since been 1997.

When contacted for a comment on the residents’ accusations, the area’s Executive Secretary Jacque Uwimmana declined to provide any comments on the allegations of corruption.

Umurerwa said she would be appealing her case to the higher courts.
