On the same day TIGO announced that it will official launch its operations in Rwanda on Monday, MTN Rwanda has launched the MTN Multi Media Messaging (MMS).

Experts say that the launch signals fierce competition in Rwanda’s telecommunication industry.

The MTN MMS technology will enable MTN subscribers with compatible phones to send pictures, video clips, music and graphics all in one message to friends or family.

Yvonne Makolo, the company’s Senior Marketing Manager said that: "We are excited to bring this incredibly fun product to our customers in Rwanda who can now Snap it, Save it and Send it from anywhere to anyone.”

The new MMS technology is most popularly used as picture messaging from camera equipped phones.

The launch of the new technology took place at shokola coffee shop on Thursday.

However, customers who wish to enjoy the product will have to be charged Rwf60 after checking the compatibility of their phone handsets.

Makolo, speaking on behalf of Khaled Mikkawi, MTN Rwanda’s Chief Executive Officer said that customers are vying for a modern lifestyle with value-driven products and services and this is why we shall continue being innovative in the way we relate to our customers.

This service will be enjoyed by people who are connected to only MTN network.

The launch of MMS is part of their drive to introduce services that provide added value to their mobile phones.
MTN Rwanda has over 1.7 million subscribers and its network coverage extends to over 90% of the country.

According to makolo, MTN Rwanda continues to expand its network, offer new and innovative packages and services, and keep up with the latest trends in communications while maintaining affordability.
