Musoni woos US investors

The Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, James Musoni ,is back from a three-day visit in Washington DC where he held discussions  aimed at increasing American investments in Rwanda with various officials.

The Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, James Musoni, is back from a three-day visit in Washington DC where he held discussions  aimed at increasing American investments in Rwanda with various officials.

According to a statement from the Rwandan Embassy in Washington, Musoni met representatives of the Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC), Government and private sector members, including those in International financial institutions.

"The Minister expressed Rwanda’s commitment to work with OPIC as a key partner in both financing and risk insurance venture towards some of Rwanda’s key selected marketable projects which are American joint ventured,” the statement said.

In a bid to boost internal American investments, he also urged the investment corporation to demonstrate their financing and risk insurance support to entrepreneurs who intend to invest their money in Rwanda.

"OPIC officials expressed their willingness to partner with the Government of Rwanda, especially US investing companies in Rwanda, especially in mortgage as well as mid-sized hotel venture,” the concept note added.

Officials from the investment group also pledged to visit Rwanda to get a personal glimpse on different projects on ground.

Citing major projects underway such as the railway, airport, redistribution centre as well as the ICT- Fiber Optic venture, Musoni encouraged EX-IM bank officials to facilitate such ventures.

He assured members that Rwanda is determined to improve the investment climate.

The minister also met with World Bank Vice President, Africa Region and the Managing Director of the World Bank Ms. Obiageli Ezekwesili and Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala respectively.
