Ugandan goalkeeper Nicholas Ssebwato is in advanced talks with APR FC over a possible switch from Mukura Victory Sports.
According to reports, the goalkeeper is few steps away from joining the Rwandan champions whose goalkeeping department has been far from impressive during the pre-season.
First choice goalkeeper Pierre Ishimwe struggled between the posts during Inkera y’Abahizi tournament, twice making blunders that cost the club against Police FC and Azam FC.
This made APR management think about signing another goalkeeper who is on caliber of competing at the highest level especially that the club will represent Rwanda CECAFA Kagame Cup and the CAF Champions League.
Times Sport understands that Ssebwato has been training with military side and is likely to travel with the club to Dr es Salaam, Tanzania, for the CECAFA Kagame Cup which will run from September 2-15.
Ssebwato had a standout performance during the 2024/25 season which saw him win best goalkeeper award.
Previously, he played for Sofapaka in January 2020 after joining from Bright Stars Football Club in Uganda.
He also played for Sports Club Villa and Onduparaka in the Uganda Premier League.
Mukura VS are keeping tabs on Senegalese goalkeeper Marc Philips Arona Diouf, who has been with the Lions of Teranga at 2024 CHAN tournament, as a possible replacement for Ssebwato.
Diouf was between the posts for Senegal who lost to Morocco on penalties in Tuesday night’s CHAN semi-final match.
A deal may have been agreed with the shot stopper who is expected in expected in Kigali before the end of the coming weekend.
Meanwhile, former Vision FC midfielder Mose Rurangwa has signed a two-year contract with Police FC while Burundi international Bonfils Caleb Bimenyimana, who previously played for Rayon Sports, is now a free agent after he parted ways with USM Alger of Algeria.
