In a message he wrote in the visitors’ book at the memorial, he noted:
"In this place of deep and painful memory, we bow with immense respect before your suffering and the eternal silence of the victims.
Your history is a solemn reminder that humanity must never forget what intolerance can cause. However, it is also a beacon of hope, a testament to the unbreakable resilience of the Rwandan people.
May the peace that Rwanda bids today be your most powerful answer, and may it serve as a lesson for all of Africa and the world. Your lives were not in Vain.”
Kigali Genocide Memorial is the resting place for over 250,000 victims of the Genocide against the Tutsi.
