Stage 5 (Huye-Kigali) - 134km

TEAM Rwanda’s chances of winning their first yellow stage were crushed when Obed Ruvogera (Team Karisimbi) broke his pedal while in the lead.

The 29-year-old surprised everyone when he opened up a 5km lead between himself and the rest of the pack between Kibuye and Muhanga.

However, tables turned on the Karisimbi rider when his pedal broke allowing the chasing pack to overtake him.

Ruvogera never recovered but his coach Jonathan Boyer thinks that Team Rwanda has a good chance of winning the yellow jersey today when cyclists return to Kigali (134km).

"Today was a very good chance for us to win the yellow jersey but I think we can still do it tomorrow,” Boyer said.  Ruvogera went on to finish a distant 26th.

Meanwhile, Morocco’s cycling team made it three wins in four stages after posting a top three finish. Saadoune Abdelaati won the stage after clocking 4 hours, 23 minutes and 41 seconds.

Dirk Keynemans (Global Cycling union) and John Njenga (Team Kenya) pulled out yesterday.
