Three local athletes have been invited to take part in this year’s Yamoussoukro International half marathon race due on December 22.

The national athletics team head coach, Adolph Rukenkanya confirmed the development to Times Sport on Thursday.

"We have been invited to take part in the half marathon race due next month.

Everything will be handled by the Ivory Coast athletics federation,” the Burundian coach said. However, the local athletics ruling body, RAF is yet to name the three athletes who would take part in this competition but athletes who took part in the world championship in Italy last month, stand higher chances.

Selection for these athletes would largely depend on the performance for this year’s Kigali marathon. Rwanda is one of the six countries that will take part in the race.

Other countries include Kenya, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Djibouti and hosts Uganda. Kenyan Isaiah Kosgei won last year’s edition.
