Striker Lague Byiringiro is on quest to maintain his impressive form for Police FC in the hope of catching the eye of Amavubi coach Adel Amrouche when he selects the squad for the forthcoming World Cup 2026 qualifiers.
Byiringiro was on target when Police FC defeated APR FC 3-2 in Inkera y’Abahizi tournament at Kigali Pele Stadium on Friday, August 22, and he is now focused on whatever can help him regain his berth at Amavubi.
"You will see Lague who plays at a high level and wants to return to Amavubi,” Biringiro said.
Amavubi will in the few coming days embark join a residential training camp to prepare for the upcoming FIFA World Cup 2026 qualifiers. They will face Nigeria on September 6 at Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, before traveling to Johannesburg to take on Zimbabwe on September 9 at Orlando Stadium.
Byiringiro, 25, admitted that he wasn’t good during the 2024/25 season but he has worked hard to make sure that he will deliver more for the club and country this season.
"I am so excited about my style of playing for sure, and I am playing at a level I want. There’s a room to improve again, but I know I still have a lot to do to return to the national team,” he said, hoping that Amrouche gives him a chance in the upcoming fixtures.
"I feel good, strong and ready to challenge defenders this season as I want to play at the top level again. I am ready for next chapter. I will be happy if I return to Amavubi again.”
"The goal is to win all domestic trophies.”
Police FC are in second place Inkera y’Abahizi competition with three points, three behind AS Kigali who top the table with six points.
Two sides will square off at Kigali Pele Stadium on Sunday, August 24, in a match that could decide who win the tournament. Meanwhile, tournament hosts APR FC will take on Azam FC at 7PM, same venue.
