Rwanda to host U-18 ITF circuit

RWANDA is scheduled to host a U-18 ITF/East Africa tennis tournament next week. The five-day event which will be jointly held at Cercle Sportif and Nyarutarama tennis club will start on November 24.

RWANDA is scheduled to host a U-18 ITF/East Africa tennis tournament next week. The five-day event which will be jointly held at Cercle Sportif and Nyarutarama tennis club will start on November 24.

According to the technical director of the local tennis federation (RTF) Thierry Ntwali , the tournament will attract players from Europe, America, Asia, Africa and the region- Burundi, Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania and hosts Rwanda.

Rwanda will field a team of twelve players; Gisele Umumararungu, Olive Uwineza and Fardawusi Kiza in the girls’ category and Hakim Ntwali, Christian Rudasingwa, Rukumani Rwandekwe, Hamisi Gatete, Desire Ngurusu, Alain Mwizerwa, Cekina Niyonshuti, Mele Bizimana, Derrick Onyancha in the boys’ fray.

South Africa’s Renier Moolman is the highest ranked player in the event with an ATP ranking of 193.

In the just ended West African leg, Benin’s Stephanie N’tcha took the girls’ accolade after defeating South Africa’s Jessica Laing  6-1 6-4 in the singles final while Benjamin Lock of Zimbabwe made light work of Omar El Kheshen (Egypt) 6-3 6-1 to win the boys’ top prize.
