The National AIDS Control Commission (CNLS) revealed last week that 17, 000 children are living with HIV in Rwanda.
Majority of these children are between the ages of 0 – 21years and they got infected during child birth.

According to the executive secretary of CNLS Anita Asiimwe, the government has been working hard to see that the number of children being infected at birth is decreased.

"The government is also working hard to see that all hospitals and health centers in the country get AIDS drugs,” Asiimwe said.

Through increasing safer ways of giving birth and early HIV testing of pregnant mothers, the rate of HIV infections can be reduced.
