RUSIZI – Residents of Rusizi district have been asked to embrace residual spraying in a bid to prevent malaria in the district.

The Mayor, Fabian Sindayiheba, made the call at the weekend while launching the spraying program in Bugarama and Muganza sectors.

The exercise kicked off in the sectors that are surrounded by Bugarama wetland including Gitambi and Gikundamvura sectors.

"I advise you as concerned residents in these four sectors to collaborate with the district in combating further malaria infection by allowing the spraying to go on in your respective homes.

This insecticide kills anopheles mosquitoes that cause malaria,” Sindanyiheba said.

Doctor Thacien Bucyana, the director of Mibilizi Hospital, who accompanied the mayor, gave tips on how residents could collaborate with those carrying out the exercise.
The medic further added that over 150 homes have been sprayed so far.

One of the beneficiaries, Jonas Dusingizimana applauded the district and the government for spraying their homes, saying this would go a long way in reducing malaria infection in the district.
