Doreen Ingabire and Kadidja Uwimana are the Rwandan girls in the USA competing to be crowned Miss Rwanda USA, such that they can later run for the more superior crown of Miss Africa USA.

Both Ingabire and Uwimana are college students in the USA. Ingabire 22 is a journalism-photojournalism student in Atlanta Georgia.

In an exclusive interview with The New Times, she explained that, "if I make it to the semi-finals I will have to present a project that I want to campaign for which would be Education, Empowerment of Women or HIV/AIDS and Healthcare”

She says she hasn’t decided which one she’ll work on but "I am passionate about those three in particular”

Miss Rwanda USA will be decided on the 1st of December, when all your votes have been polled while the grand finale where Miss Africa USA will be crowned is in July next year.

The annual event is organized to advance the cause of women of African descent and creating unity among Africans while celebrating the African cultural heritage in the United States of America.

South Africa’s Nyasha Zimucha is the reighning Miss Africa USA. She replaced Nigeria’s Mfonobong Essiet. It’s also the first time Rwandans have joined the competition.

Proceeds from the event go to fund identified projects dealing with needs in health care, education and the protection of women and children’s rights.

To vote for them, www.missafricaunitedstates.com is the website to visit.
