Rwanda's agriculture sector generated $10.5 million (approx. Rwf15.3 billion) from agricultural and animal product exports between August 11 and 15, according to the National Agricultural Export Development Board (NAEB).

The main export destinations included neighbouring countries and overseas markets such as the United Arab Emirates, India, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Turkey, the United States, and France.

Figures released on Tuesday, August 19, showed that the country exported 8,182 tonnes of various agricultural products in the past week. Some 561 tonnes of coffee fetched Rwf6.1 billion, or 40 per cent of the total earnings.

Some 530 tonnes of tea exports generated Rwf2.1 billion.

Vegetables earned Rwf581 million from 324 tonnes, and fruits fetched Rwf398 million from 302 tonnes.

Flowers contributed Rwf148 million from 17 tonnes, whereas 289 tonnes of animal products generated Rwf836 million.

More than 6,100 tonnes of diversified agricultural products, largely destined for African countries, generated Rwf5 billion.

Rwanda's agricultural exports generated $839.2 million (approx. Rwf1.2 billion) in the fiscal year 2023/2024.

The government targets $1.5 billion (more than Rwf2 trillion) by 2028/2029, representing a 78.7 per cent increase.
