MUSANZE - Ministers of education from 15 African countries that are members of the Inter State University for Science and Veterinary Medicine (EISMV) on Friday appointed Education Minister Dr Charles Murigande as chair of the university’s board.

He was elected at the conclusion of a five-day meeting that brought together all education ministers and senior government officials from countries that are members to the university based in Dakar, Senegal.

Murigande said that as chairman, he will encourage the member-states that have arrears to pay in order to ensure that the school operates smoothly.

Murigande warned that the school may eventually collapse, if member states do not clear the arrears. Rwanda does not owe the university any funds.

Meanwhile, the ministers on Friday visited the Institute of Agriculture and Animal Husbandry-ISAE Busogo.

At ISAE-Busogo, they toured several laboratories at the institute and the newly constructed veterinary clinic.
According to the rector of ISAE-Busogo, Dr Charles Karemangingo, 9 lecturers at ISAE have graduated from EISMV University, adding that they also have visiting lectures from the inter-state university.
