Rayon Sports were humbled to a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Tanzanian champions Young Africans in an international club friendly held at Amahoro Stadium on Friday, August 15.
The Tanzanian champions spoiled the home side’s celebration of Rayon Day which takes place before the new season begins.
It is during the annual occasion that the club presents the new squad, new signings, and new home, away and third kit, for the new season.
Rayon’s match against Young Africans was highly anticipated and it attracted thousands of fans from both sides.
The Blues got an early lead in the first minute through an own goal from Young Africans defender Israel Mwenda after his pass went past goalkeeper Aziz Andambwile.
The goal sent home fans into a frenzy before Young Africans regrouped to equalize in the 27th minute after forward Andy Boyeli fired a powerful drive which goalie Drissa Kouyatte failed to save.
The visitors took the lead before halftime when Pacôme Zouzoua came up with the ball and left Rayon Sports players behind shoot past Kouyate for the second goal in the 44th minute.
Young Africans dominated possession in the second half but Lotfi Afahmia calmed the players to stay in the game. The Tanzanian side maintained attacking pressure which resulted into a goal in the 92nd minute through a powerful header from Bakari Mwamnyeto.
The latest result marks Rayon Sports’ sixth consecutive Rayon Day defeat.
Young Africans introduce fan club in Rwanda
After winning Rayon Day trophy, Yanga SC officially announced a fan club in Rwanda as club continues to grow its fan base in the country.
The development was confirmed by club&039;s spokesperson, Ali Kamwe, who has been in town for a few days prior to the match.
