Residents of Ruhuha sector in Bugesera District have written to the Ombudsman’s office seeking his intervention in getting back their cattle taken away by sector officials.

It’s alleged that the orders came from the district to have thirteen heads of cattle rounded up and returned to the district headquarters.

The residents who are members of Abahizi Cooperative claim that in August, Ruhuha sector authorities led by executive secretary and local police ordered whoever had acquired a cow in 2007 to return it.

And now, in a letter dated October 21, 2009, residents are calling for intervention from the office of the ombudsman, saying the act amounts to "gross injustice.’

When contacted for comment, the executive secretary of Ruhuha sector, Antoine Rusingizandekwe said that the orders came from the District.

However, Bugesera District, Vice Mayor in charge of economic affairs Julius Rukundo, denied any involvement of the district.
