Rwanda’s Elyse Igiraneza and Gedeo Murinzi opened their boys’ doubles campaign in the second week of the ITF World Tennis Tour Juniors (J60) at the IPRC-Kigali Ecology Tennis Courts with a hard-fought 6-3, 2-6, 10-7 victory over fourth seeds Kim Kyungone and King Onyx Umuhoza on Wednesday.

Day two of the tournament featured boys’ and girls’ doubles matches, after the singles matches took a one-day break.

In boys’ doubles, top seeds Juliusz Stanczyk and American Eaden-Zack Harron progressed to the next round after a commanding 6-3, 6-1 win over Patrick Grigore and Evan Saha.

For the girls’ doubles, Chrissa Sheja Mugabo partnered with Uganda’s Macrina Nimaro Ennema to advance to the second round via a walkover.

Top seed Jannat Chiripal and first-week singles champion Liu Xiang also advanced without hitting a ball due to their opponents’ withdrawal.

They will now face Nandini Kansal and Eden Manor, who overcame Mariya Patel and Santra Prerana in two sets 6-2, 6-3 in the first round.

Meanwhile, Rwanda's Thierrine Ineza and Chantal Niyimbabazi suffered a 6-0, 6-3 defeat to Deniz Cakil and Aurelia Zaffuto. Cakil and Zaffuto will next challenge third-seeded sisters Lucia and Veronik Koutova.

In other boys’ doubles action, Edison Nshimiyimana and Uganda’s Jonah Ssentongo cruised past Aarush Gupta and Wesley Shema 7-5, 6-1, setting quarterfinal date with third seeds Alexander and Japan’s Kazuki Nakajima, who defeated Mattia Autorino and Tommaso Caucchioli 6-4, 6-1.

The second round continues on Wednesday, August 13.

In boys’ singles, Stanczyk will take on Mattia Autorino, while first-week champion Kazuki Nakajima will face China's Ziheng Wang in a clash of world's top tennis prospects.

In girls’ category, Chiripal will meet Belyakova while second seed Dvir faces Kansal, with both matches expected to deliver exciting tennis.
