The burial of Deo Kambanda, a respected academic who served as Rector of the University of Rwanda, then the National University of Rwanda (UNR) from 1995 to 1997, will take place on Saturday, August 16.
Kambanda passed away on Sunday, August 11, at the age of 90, after an illness. He had been receiving treatment at King Faisal Hospital.
According to the family, a celebration of his life will be held on Friday, August 15, from 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The next morning, his body will be collected from King Faisal Hospital mortuary at 7:00 a.m., followed by a final farewell at his home in Kacyiru at 9:00 a.m.

A prayer service will be held at Centre Christus in Remera at 11:00 am, after which the burial will take place at Rusororo Cemetery at 3:00 pm.
Kambanda was a seasoned educator who taught in various institutions across the country. Between 1966 and 1968, he taught at Groupe Scolaire Officiel de Butare, before joining Institut Pédagogique National (IPN) in 1968. He later earned a PhD from the University of Maryland between 1977 and 1979.
