RWANDA’S national boxing team will not participate at next month’s AIBA President’s Cup competition due in Taipei, china.

Rwanda Amateur Boxing Association (Raba) technical Director who also doubles at the national team head coach Gashugi Kananura told Times Sport yesterday that financial constraints have deprived the team’s participation.

"At this time, we can’t secure any funds to send our team to china,” Gashugi said.

The AIBA President’s Cup created in honour of AIBA President Dr. Ching-Kuo Wu, made its debut in 2008 in Chinese Taipei, Taiwan and became a biennial event in 2009.

The event marks an occasion to witness some of the most renowned boxers from around the world.

The tournament, created to pay homage to Wu who is successfully reforming the sport of boxing, featured specially invited countries in the first edition.

The AIBA President’s Cup has become a Confederation team competition held every two years starting with the December edition.

A total of eight teams will be invited with each Confederation selecting boxers for each of its teams; Americas (2), Asia (2), Europe (2), Africa (1) and Oceania (1).
