Renowned musicians and deejays are set to perform at the inaugural Edu-Fun Fiesta, a youth-centered campaign that promises to transform substance abuse prevention and financial literacy education into a celebration of sports, music, and peer engagement.
Organized by Our Past Initiative, the event, scheduled for August 15 at Club Rafiki, will be headlined by a live performance of artists like Kivumbi King, Chriss Eazy and B-Threy while DJs Pyfo, June and Kevin Klein will be on the decks.
The event will feature sports and entertainment activities such as 3x3 basketball competitions, rap battles featuring local artists, live music performances, and interactive educational programming to address substance abuse and financial illiteracy, two critical challenges facing Rwandan youth.
The philosophy driving Edu-Fun Fiesta recognizes that traditional awareness campaigns often fail to resonate with youth audiences. Instead of lecturing, the initiative employs what Christian Intwari, Director of Our Past Initiative, describes as a multi-dimensional approach that meets young people where they are emotionally, socially, and practically.
"Across Rwanda today, young people are quietly facing mounting pressure and exposure to harmful habits, from substance abuse to financial instability.
"These challenges rarely make headlines, but they shape the futures of individuals, families, and communities in powerful ways. We believe the best antidote is honest, early, and engaging education, delivered in a language that young people understand and respond to,” said Christian Intwari.
Live music performances will punctuate the day's activities, creating an atmosphere where learning feels celebratory rather than remedial. The integration of local artists ensures cultural relevance and authentic connection with participants, making educational content more relatable and memorable.
The event will kick off at 1pm with a free entrance fee.
