Canada-based youngster Dylan Kayijuka says he is now working hard with a target to get a debut call-up in the senior national team.

After being named Most Valuable Player at the Giants of Africa Festival that unfolded in Kigali, Canada-based youngster Dylan Kayijuka says he is now working hard with a target to get a debut callup in the senior national team.

The 18-year-old point guard shone as Rwanda won the Giants of Africa youth competition that brought together young players from across the continent.

He was fresh off yet another thrilling performance at the U18 Afrobasket 2024.

Speaking to Times Sport, Kayijuka said the MVP accolade gave him a great feeling because "it’s outward recognition of my skills and talent being recognized, so it feels amazing."

" I’m also humbled to receive this award because there were so many great players at this festival and to be chosen as the MVP is incredible so I’m thankful to all the coaches and people that saw something my game," he added

He "thanked God" because "He is the one that has given me this gift and He deserves all the glory."

Commenting on the prospect of breaking into the senior national team, Kayijuka said, "It’s something I want to do and I believe I can contribute to the team."

Kayijuka acknowledges people who back him to step up to play basketball at a senior level.

"That's very encouraging to hear and I definitely plan on playing on the men's team very soon," he said, revealing that he is currently working on getting stronger physically, putting on more weight, muscle and size.

"I am also working on my athleticism that’s been what’s lacking in my game so far, so ive been in the gym and to gain more Weight and muscles."

"Also I've been watching film on how I can improve my decision making and little things like time management or just being aware of the situation of the game," he said.
