China is a good friend to Africa

Editor,

Barely a week goes by without me listening to either a western journalist or a human rights body complain about the Chinese involvement in Africa. Here are my two cents.

Following the China-Africa summit in Egypt,  where the Chinese foreign minister stressed his country’s commitment to Africa’s and pledged $10 billion, following its debt relief.

In fact, after all this China also said it would help Africa deal with climate change challenges such as desertification.

I ask you critic, what has the ‘clean’ West done for us lately? Not a whole lot. When I look for foreign investment in Africa, I see thousands of small and medium sized Chinese companies and barely any American ones.

While the Chinese may have their interests, but so do we. I’m interested in their ‘yuan’, skills and partnership. This century shall be a ‘Chinese’ one; we have jumped on the right bandwagon.
