It starts with the youth

I appeal to the youth of today’s generation to have love and affection for one another and avoid behaving like the youth in the past.

Here, I am particularly referring to the youth who were present before the 1994 massacre.

There was wide spread tribalism based on ethnic differences among the people.

It is no wonder that the young able bodied youth at the time were able to get hold of pagans, axes, other harmful weapons and mercilessly slaughter their fellow countrymen.

From the time they were born, they grew up to believe that shedding one’s blood was a quick way of solving problems.

So, to erase such a belief, today’s youth should instead work hand in hand to live in peace, forget the past and look to the bright future.

The government encourages national unity and reconciliation groups to actively involve the youth in reconciliation of all the Rwandans.

Let the peace and prosperity of a thousand hills begin with the youth.
