On Monday, August 11, Mbabazi signed the book of condolences opened by Ghana’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, "reiterating Rwanda&039;s solidarity with the Government and people of Ghana as they mourn this national loss,” the High Commission said in an X post.
The helicopter went down on Wednesday in the Ashanti region en route from the capital, Accra, to Obuasi for an official event focused on tackling illegal mining. There were no survivors.
The cause of the crash is yet to be determined, but recent developments indicate that the aircraft’s black box has been recovered, and extensive investigations are underway
The envoy also joined mourners in laying wreaths at the ceremonial garden, following Rwanda’s official statement expressing condolences to Ghana after the tragedy.
Rwanda’s Speaker of Parliament, Gertrude Kazarwa, also conveyed a condolence message to the mourning nation on August 9, describing the loss as both shocking and deeply saddening.
"It is with deep shock and profound sorrow that we have learned of the tragic passing of Honourable Edward Omane Boamah, Minister of Defence, and Honourable Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, Minister of Environment, Science and Technology of the Republic of Ghana, following the unfortunate helicopter crash,” Kazarwa said in a statement on Saturday.
"In this moment of national grief and mourning, I wish to convey, on behalf of the Chamber of Deputies of the Republic of Rwanda and in my own name, our deepest sympathies and heartfelt condolences to the Government and the people of Ghana, the Honourable Members of Parliament, the bereaved families, and all those affected by this untimely loss,” she added. "May the souls of the departed Ministers rest in eternal peace.”
