Rain and thunderstorms are forecast on Monday night

Rwanda Meteorology Agency (Meteo Rwanda) has warned of rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms across all districts between 6pm and midnight on Monday, August 11.

Wind speeds are expected to range from 3 to 6 metres per second. According to the forecast, no rain is expected between midnight and 6am on Tuesday August 12, although moderate winds of 3 to 5 metres per second are predicted.

The lowest morning temperature is expected to be 11°C in Nyabihu District.

The agency said it will issue updates if there are any changes to the forecast and urged the public to remain alert.

Monthly forecast

According to Meteo Rwanda, rainfall in August is expected to range between 0 and 100 millimetres, with a slight increase anticipated in the last ten days of the month.

The highest rainfall, between 70 and 100mm, is forecast in Musanze District, most parts of Rubavu, Nyabihu, and Burera districts, Nyamagabe District, and parts of Gakenke, Karongi, and Nyamasheke districts.

Rainfall ranging from 60 to 70mm is projected in other districts of the Western Province, parts of Burera, Gakenke, Muhanga, Rulindo, Gicumbi, Nyagatare, Ruhango, Nyanza, and Huye districts, as well as northern Kamonyi and Nyaruguru districts.

Most parts of Kigali, Rwamagana District, Kayonza District, and part of Kirehe District are expected to receive 50 to 60mm, while areas such as Amayaga and some eastern districts may record less than 50mm.
