The former chief executive of the Water and Sanitation Corporation (WASAC) Group, Omar Munyaneza, is in custody along with two other officials, Rwanda Investigation Bureau (RIB) said on Thursday, August 7.
Munyaneza and the two officials face corruption charges, including favouritism and solicitation of sexual favours, RIB said in a statement on Thursday night.

The arrests were announced two days after Parliament called for criminal investigations into unsupported expenditures in 10 public institutions, including WASAC, which is said to have spent an unsupported Rwf1.8 billion on three projects in the 2023/24 fiscal year, according to the Office of the Auditor General.
Munyaneza, a former MP who was replaced by Asaph Kabaasha as WASAC CEO on July 16, had been at the helm of the water utility company since September 2023.
He and the two co-accused are currently detained at Kimihurura RIB Station and Kicukiro Station, as their case is being processed before it's filed with the Prosecution, RIB said.
