NYAMAGABE - A man who is suspected to have raped and then murdered a senior six candidate in Gasaka Sector, Nyamagabe District, has been arrested and detained at Gasaka Police Station.

Jacqueline Uwimana, 23, a secretarial studies student at Groupe Scolaire ACEPER in Nyamagabe town was at home preparing for her exams when she was attacked on Thursday.

Speaking from the police station, Nkundimana alias Gakara, a taxi conductor confessed to the gruesome act claiming he was under the influence of alcohol.

"I was not thinking straight at that time because of alcohol, I raped her then hit her with a stone on the head until she died,” said the 20-year-old.

At deceased’s former school, the institution’s director, Diogene Zinarizima posed a dejected look when The New Times asked him about his former student.

"She was an intelligent and disciplined student, it is painful for us and her family, every right thinking Rwandan should condemn this gruesome act,” said Zinarizima.

The deceased joined the school in 2007 as a day scholar.
