GICUMBI - Health workers in Gicumbi district have taken a step to prevent outbreak of swine flue, days after reports of the disease outbreak in various upcountry towns.

The director of Byumba Hospital, Dr. Diocles Mukama, said residents have been encouraged to report to nearest health facilities immediately after experiencing any of the swine flu symptoms.

"There are no reported cases of H1N1 infections so far in the entire district. Residents however, should continue observing precautionary measures to prevent the disease spread from other districts,” he said.

Dr. Mukama said health workers at village level have been provided with basic health training skills, to sensitise residents for the purposes of curbing any likely outbreak.
