Burial of Mukura VS fan Mukanemeye set for Tuesday

Famous Mukura VS and Amavubi fan Madeleine Mukanemeye will be laid to rest on Tuesday, August 4, according to the club.

Mukanemeye, who was nicknamed "Mama Mukura” courtesy of her unconditional love for Mukura VS, died on Sunday morning under what the club described as ‘sudden circumstances.’ She was 103 years old.

Her burial will take place at Munazi cemetery located in Save Sector, Huye District in Southern Province. Her body is currently laid at Butare University Teaching Hospital (CHUB) mortuary.

According to the burial agenda, Mukura VS and members of the sports fraternity in general will join the family to say their last goodbyes to the late famous fan at her home in Munazi before a prayers’ ceremony which will take place Save Catholic Church, followed by the burial at Munazi cemetery.

Mukanemeye was born in 1922 in Kabitoki Village, Munazi Cell, Save Sector, Gisagara District; she was the youngest in a family of eight children.

She attended primary school but dropped out in the third grade to work as a cook for nuns in Kibeho, Nyaruguru District.

Mukanemeye started to support Mukura VS from the day it was founded in 1963 and she was also an avid fan of Rwanda’s national team ‘Amavubi’ where she didn’t miss a single match at Huye Stadium.
