Rwanda’s World Cup dream was shattered after losing 1-0 to Uganda in the 2011 Women World Cup qualifier played yesterday at Nyamirambo stadium.

Uganda’s striker Hadijja Namalwa scored in the 88th minute to shatter Rwanda’s dream.

The junior women team needed a win 1-0 at home after having lost 2-1 in the first leg in Kampala two weeks ago, but despite dominating possession for most part of the game, their failure to put away their chances.

Striker Saida Ntagisanimana missed two glorious chances in the first half when both her headed attempts failed to find the target.

In the second half, coach Andreas Spier reverted to a 4-4-2 formation, when he introduced striker Emelyne Mboneza for midfielder Yvonne Mukamaliza, and this formation immediately proved to be a handful to the Ugandan defence, but Ugandan goal keeper Annet Nanyonga was the difference after producing fine saves that kept the hosts at bay.

After the game, Spier blamed his striking department for the loss, insisting that there is a problem of lack of clinical finishers in the team.
