Top Rwandan traditional troupe Inganzo Ngari on Friday, August 1, celebrated with traditional dance enthusiasts the milestones that the country has achieved from colonization to a more prosperous and united country Rwanda is today.
The concert dubbed ‘Tubarusha Inganji’ was staged at Kigali Conference and Exhibition Village (KCEV) on the occasion of Umuganura (National harvest day), a feast that brings Rwandans together to celebrate their heritage.
The performance highlighted a series of plays that showed Rwanda’s journey from colonialism to date, and the events that happened in between. The dancers had mastered each move and it was quite impressive witnessing how they moved together.
Among the plays showcased were the coming of the missionaries and the religious teachings they practiced introduced to Rwandans. They also featured a play about the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsis and how Rwandans overcame that tragedy.
The dances featured cultures from different parts of the country, from Ikinimba to Igishakamba and dance from Nkombo. The audience were overwhelmed by the troupe’s undeniable skills and staying relevant, especially when they took on a stage decorated with Umuganura setting. They gave it all on that stage and their energy was felt.
From their junior dancers to former members like singer Ibrahim Cyusa, also played a big role during their performance. The troupe took time to thank and give an award of appreciation to those who always support them.
Since 2009, this cultural troupe has held major performances that have significantly promoted Rwandan culture. These include the 2009 show titled "Inganzo Twaje”, followed by "Umuco kagozi ka Bugingo kabuza u Rwanda gucika” in 2010.
Founded in 2006, Inganzo Ngari has established itself among the most celebrated cultural troupes in Rwanda. Dedicated to promoting traditional Rwandan culture through dance, music, and song, the troupe has demonstrated exceptional skill in Rwandan traditional dances, especially those performed by young men and women.
Beyond dance, the troupe contributes by preserving and performing original songs rooted in traditional culture. Inganzo Ngari remains one of the most admired cultural troupes in Rwanda, playing a vital role in safeguarding and promoting Rwandan culture at both national and international levels.
The troupe is preparing for a concert celebrating 20-year anniversary.
