What is the UN doing about rogue MONUC elements?

Editor, I’m shocked to read that some staff in the UN Mission in the DRC (MONUC) are helping members of the Democratic Forces for the Liberation of Rwanda (FDLR) rebels, to get medical help.

MONUC troops. Are they collaborating with FDLR as is reported?

Editor,

I’m shocked to read that some staff in the UN Mission in the DRC (MONUC) are helping members of the Democratic Forces for the Liberation of Rwanda (FDLR) rebels, to get medical help.

The report that MONUC is allegedly helping ailing FDLR commander Maj. Gen. Sylvestre Mudacumura is truly despicable.

If The New Times sources are correct that Mudacumura , who has been seriously sick, is being helped by MONUC, then I have serious gripes with this mission. Why in the world would these fellows, on one hand, help the Congolese army disarm them, and then on the other hand, help the same fellow who is their commander live to fight another day? Why don’t they simply apprehend him and send him to Rwanda? Surely he is a war criminal.
