Rwanda Environment Management Authority (REMA) in partnership with Green Schools has distributed water tanks worth about Rwf22m to various schools across the country.

During the official hand over of two tanks to Groupe Scolaire Rugende in Gasabo District, Rose Mukankomeje, the Director General of REMA, urged students to protect the environment.

"You are  the future of this country and should conserve the environment, especially for those who will come after you,” she said.
"Every Rwandan has a right to enjoy the environment, but it should also be everyone’s role to protect it as well”.

Elizabeth Rugege, the Director of Green Schools Rwanda, said the project aims at improving the environment in schools, hygiene and sanitation.

"This year we have worked on two schools and next year we hope to work on three. We talked to REMA that provided tanks to the schools,” she said.

Yvonne Banamwana, the Deputy headmistress of Rugende, thanked Rugege for the advocacy she made for the schools to get the facilities and the green vegetation.

"We didn’t have grass or trees in our compound. She organized its planting. She even advocated for us and REMA came to our rescue,” she said.
