KARONGI - The beauty contest to choose miss Western Province attracted a lot of drama last Wednesday as the show was called off and postponed to November 11, 2009.

The contest which was marred with many irregularities attracted only six contestants instead of the expected 20 from which four had to be chosen.

The panel of judges and the entire audience was drawn into prolonged laughter when one of the contestants called Karongi district a ‘province’,  while another one could hardly mention the right name of the Minister of Sports and Culture.

As if that was not enough, another contestant shocked the public after saying her height was 10metres when asked how tall she was.

However, it was not all lost the crowd was  later treated to music from Rwanda’s famous local artists like The Ben, Kitoko and Miss chanel.

The Rwandatel sponsored show became a total flop and the organizers blamed the failure on lack of proper preparations.

"We discovered that people here did not get enough time to prepare for the event and that is why we postponed it to next week,” an official from Rwandatel told The New Times shortly after the show.

A similar event is set to take place today  in Butare for the southern province before crowning it all with Kigali city contests slated for November 14, 2009.
