Midfielder Bonheur Mugisha has said he is looking forward to winning his first major trophy with Stade Tunisien when they face Espérance Tunis in the Super Cup final at the Stade Hammadi Agrebi on August 3.

The Rwanda international dominates the midfield and scored from the spot in the first half as Stade Tunisien beat US Monastir 2-0 at the Stade Taïeb-Mehiri in Sfax on Sunday, July 27, to advance to the final of the Super Cup.

"It is always good to score a goal, it boosts morale and confidence. I am happy to reach the final, but now the big task ahead is against Espérance de Tunis. This is a final, and for the final, you want just to play, you play to win the match,” Mugisha said.

Stade Tunisien are winless against Espérance in their last 10 meetings from which they lost nine matches and drew once in the process.

However, Mugisha believes they can end they jinx and win the trophy against the odds.

"Yes, we haven’t won against them (this season), but we can turn things around this time, we have a chance to beat them. They are a very good team, but stay humble against them. No, we have to fight for the 90 minutes and see what comes out.”

The former APR midfielder said that winning the Super Cup would be encouraging for his side which will represent Tunisia in the 2025-26 CAF Confederation Cup after finishing as runners-up in the Tunisian cup.

Mugisha is one of the graduates of Heroes football academy based in Mayange-Bugesera District. He joined the academy at the age of 15 and, after impressing the coaches, he was promoted to the senior team after two years.

In 2019, during his first year in the second division, he helped Heroes to finish in fourth position. The following season, they finished in second position and the team was promoted to the top-flight league.

Heroes FC were then relegated in the 2019/20 season after a poor run of results, pushing the player out of the club to join Mukura Victory Sport on loan where he enjoyed two successful seasons.

Mugisha’s performance attracted the attention of APR FC who eventually signed him at the end of the 2020/21 season. He spent two seasons at the army side until when he joined his formed APR coach Ben Moussa at AS Marsa in 2023 before joining Stade Tunisien a season later.
