Swift action needed on CID report

As we reported today, the Police Criminal Investigations Department has finalized a report on the alleged tendering flaws in 12 government institutions, that will soon be forwarded to prosecution for further follow up. Much as this is a commendable job on the part of the National Police, the work should not end here. The relevant institutions must act to deal with those implicated in the findings.

We have, for the last few years heard of hundreds of millions of hard earned taxpayers’ money either swindled or mishandled through flouted procedures in various government departments.

The will to fight corruption and the current momentum demonstrated by government in dealing the vice should be maintained.

There should be no excuses for corruption, be it ignorance or procedure as some of the perpetrators have sought to defend their misdemeanor.

It is critical to bear in mind that it is only through proper accountability of public finances that the country will cast away the yoke of dependency.

Therefore, relevant institutions should move to ensure that the culprits in this  report are brought to book.
