GICUMBI - Members of the Private Sector Federation (PSF) in Gicumbi District, last Saturday, participated in classroom construction at Inyange Primary School in Byumba Sector.

This was during community work, which also attracted traders, taxi operators, local residents and parents.

Speaking to The New Times, the PSF chairman in the district, Gratien Mupenzi said  it was necessary for Rwandans to participate in classroom construction in order to prepare children for a bright future.

"The children need our morale and material support at this time because the future of Rwanda lies in their hands,” said Mupenzi. 

Isidore Nizeyimana, one of the parents, hailed the government for introducing the 9-year Basic Education programme, which he said will increase school enrolment.

"This programme will help to avail education to many children, thereby raising the literacy levels in the country,” he said.

Nizeyimana disclosed that each parent has accepted to contribute Rwf3500 towards the expansion of the school’s classrooms. 

In a related development, the Gicumbi District vice Mayor for Economic Affairs Ildephonse Butera, joined residents in the construction of four classrooms at Bugomba Primary School in Kaniga Sector.

The district director of education, Deogratius Mwanafunzi said the district target is to construct a total of 92 new classrooms by the end of this year.

"All local leaders in each sector have been notified to sensitise residents on the importance of building more classrooms,” he said.
