Vaernewyck, said according to the recent evaluations of Handicap International worldwide, Rwanda ranks No. 1 out of 88 countries, in promoting inclusive education.
He was last week officiating at a ceremony to recognize Justine Musabyimana, a teacher at Handicap Rwandais Rehabilite Reintegre ses Driots (HRD) school in Nyamabuye sector- for her role in helping students living with disabilities.
Vaernewyck said: "The presence of HRD School is the only hope for children living with disability.
The Rwandan example has been outstanding and we encourage all parents and teachers to give equal education opportunity to all children and extend the program to every community.”
He revealed that the European Union (EU) has agreed to extend financing of HRD project for the next four more years in a bid to increase on the number of beneficiaries.
Léoncie Mukamwezi, the HRD director, appealed for funds to build residential quarters.
She revealed that the school has 213 children, most of whom receive basic life skills in addition to other normal education programmes.
Through songs, some of the beneficiaries commended Handicap International for its support, noting that despite their physical disabilities they are able to live life like any other children.
