NORTHERN PROVINCE - The Ministry of Education, has directed that Ruli Nursing College in the Northern Province, be closed for failure to meet standards set by the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE).

Geoffrey Rugege, the Executive Director of NCHE confirmed the development, after he was contacted The New Times, yesterday saying that the lecturers were not qualified enough to give the nurses lessons.

The students have been urged to join other competent institutions.

The ministry’s move is aimed at protecting students from falling prey to education investors who deliver substandard education.

The ministry has on several occasions warned that it will not tolerate Institutions of Higher Learning that do not meet requirements set by NCHE.

NCHE has been vetting private universities to ascertain whether they meet standards required, with the universities that fall short of these standards will not be granted accreditation.

The NCHE operates under the Education Ministry and is mandated to ensure quality and oversee the planning of all tertiary institutions in the country.
