In a statement released on July 18, RIB said Habiyambere was taken into custody following an investigation into his asset declarations to the Office of the Ombudsman.

"He is in custody following an investigation into his assets declaration to the Ombudsman’s Office, which was not truthful, in order to conceal the origin of the assets,” the statement reads in part.
Habiyambere is currently being held at the Nyarugenge RIB station. His case file has been submitted to the Prosecution for further legal action.
RIB has warned people mandated to declare their assets to the Ombudsman to do so truthfully, cautioning that false or incomplete declarations may constitute criminal offenses.
