DESPITE being Rwf50m short of the Tour of Rwanda budget (Rwf250m), the president of the national cycling federation (Ferwacy) Aimable Bayingana insists that they can stage a colourful championship with what they have on their account.

The sports ministry contributed the lion’s share after sinking Rwf150m into the championship.

This year, the tour will have a new face after being incorporated onto the African tour of the International Cycling Union (ICU) calendar.

For this reason, Ferwacy expect cyclists from some of the world’s top cycling nations like South Africa, Ivory Coast, Morocco, Egypt, USA, Greece, Germany, Italy, Belgium and France among others.

The lavish tour will run from November 16 to 24 covering eight stages. The longest stage will cover 163.5km while the shortest will go for 33.8km.

Team Rwanda’s Adrien Niyonshuti won last year’s edition but he is cagey about the foreign legion challenge.
