Different stakeholders in emergency situations in the country have been called upon to be fruitful in providing standard procurement methods and logistical coordination during catastrophes.

Supt. Charles Kaihura from Disaster Management Centre (DMC) made the call yesterday while officially opening a two-day workshop of several Non Governmental Organisations held at Telecom House.

The workshop organised by Rwanda National Police, aims at creating awareness and identifying best practices in regard to procurement procedures and rapid response in disasters.

"The DMC experiences some setbacks in terms of procurement procedures and logistical coordination during emergency situations. Stakeholders should therefore set out coherent and harmonious framework for coordination during disaster times,” Kaihura said.

Ronnie Magaba, who is in charge of logistics at United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), urged stakeholders who included World Food Programme and UNICEF among others, to react in extraordinary ways if emergencies have to be dealt with successfully.

He advised them to give quality services in time and to always have clear budgets that would help them during emergency situations.
