VIDEO: How Moses Turahirwa took Rwanda’s fashion scene by storm

Celebrated Rwandan fashion star Moses Turahirwa dropped a bombshell Friday when he announced he was stepping down from his role at Moshions, the country’s leading fashion brand.

"I have officially resigned from my role of being a men’s and women’s wear designer at Moshions, I have learnt so much from this, and have shaped me to be the best version of myself,” the 30-year-old posted on his Twitter account.

"Looking forward to supporting the brand on future creative ventures,” he added.

The development followed a series of his and other people’s social media posts related to the controversy he stirred after he posted a photo of himself on Twitter deemed by many to be indecent, earlier this week.

Born into a family of five in Nyamasheke District, Turahirwa graduated in Technical Construction at IPRC-Kigali before he drew inspiration from his mother and uncle to set up Moshions in 2015.

"I used to pay attention to details from my mom’s hand embroidery, my uncle was also a tailor in the neighborhood, so I think everything has a source,” he told The New Times in an exclusive interview back in July.

In the video below, Turahirwa talks about his early life growing up in the village, his childhood passion for fashion and how he set up a brand that would take Rwanda’s fashion industry by storm.
