Having pioneered the "Electricity Pre-Payment” service, commonly referred to as "Cash Power,” former Electrogaz is set to introduce a new water payment system.

The new billing service will benefit customers whose average monthly water bill is more than Rwf20,000, a statement from electrogaz states.

Rwanda’s water and electricity provider said yesterday that interested customers will be required to sign an agreement with the company for a period not less than six months.

"For the average person, settlement of utility bills is never hustle-free. We always remember to deal with utility bills when they are due, sometimes after a disconnection. The inconvenience can sometimes be a mere nuisance but at times, a major hustle,” the statement reads in part.

Over the years, the utility body has been working hard to improve its services having initiated the prepaid electricity billing system in the region.

"Now we are pioneering a water pre-payment system as a first in the region,” officials stated.

The new innovate way, which will empower water customers, has two options for client to use. First is the six-month water Pre-Payment, which is available to customers who agree to enter into a "Pre-Payment Contract” with the company.

It is designed for customers who wish to settle their water bills six months in advance instead of dealing with the inconvenience of monthly bills. Payments are made either at a utility’s cash desk or at a designated bank and a bank receipt presented to game. 

The second option is the debit transfer that is designed for a customer happy to authorize his/her bank to debit their account for a given amount of money to cover the monthly water bills in favour of the company.

The company revealed that it is in talks with MTN-Rwanda for a water billing system where clients can buy water units using mobile credit.

It is believed that discussions are in advanced stages and the service will be rolled out soon.
