Hoops: Diarra, Boissy to miss Rwanda Basketball League finals

APR center Aliou Diarra and Rwanda Energy Group (REG) point guard Jean Jacques Boissy will miss the upcoming Rwanda Basketball League (RBL) finals as they head to the 2025 NBA Summer League, scheduled for July 10–20 in Las Vegas, USA.

APR and REG will play Game 1 of the finals at BK Arena on Wednesday, July 2, without the two star players.

Boissy will leave for the United on Wednesday via Senegal, while Diarra departs Kigali on Monday tonight.

Diarra, 23, played a crucial role in APR’s run to the finals, especially in the semi-final playoff Game 2 win over Patriots (87–63) on June 28, where he put up an impressive double-double (25 points, 18 rebounds) to even the series 1-1.

APR went on to qualify for finals with 3-2 series victory.

Since joining APR in 2024, Diarra has won both the RBL championship and the Rwanda Cup. He also made headlines in the 2025 Basketball Africa League (BAL) by registering eight blocks in a single game and went on the be named BAL Defensive Player of the Year for the second time.

Overall, he averaged 17.4 points, 11.6 rebounds, 3.4 blocks, and 1 steal over eight BAL games.

Meanwhile, Boissy, 25, helped REG sweep UGB in the RBL semi-finals.

He has been a star performer for REG during this season. For example, he scored 32 points against Patriots and a season-high 37 against Orion.

At the BAL, Boissy joined Al Ahli Tripoli, leading the team to its first-ever title after defeating Petro de Luanda, becoming the first Senegalese player to win BAL.

His stellar performances in Pretoria saw him win BAL MVP, Best Scorer (18.9 PPG), and All-Defensive First Team honours.
