MUHANGA - Dr. Abedi Kizito Ruzigana, the former Muhanga Vice-Mayor, in charge of Economic Affairs, who died in a motor accident, last Sunday, will be remembered for his tranquility, diplomacy and commitment to nation building.

The Bishop of Kabgayi, Smargade Mbonyintege, made the remarks while addressing hundreds of mourners who had turned up for Ruzigana’s requiem mass held at St. André Parish Church in Ruhina on Tuesday.

Mbonyintege called on Christians to emulate Ruzigana’s example and work towards building good relationships while still alive.

In her eulogy, the Mayor Yvonne Mutakwasuku, said that the deceased will be remembered for his integrity, humility and peacemaking role in society. She added that Ruzigana’s sudden departure has left a big gap in her administration.

Ruzigana’s body was laid to rest at Kabgayi Catholic cemetery.

Various government officials and residents attended the burial ceremony and prayed for the Lord to receive his soul in eternal peace.

Ruzigana, 61, who was a veterinary doctor by profession, is survived by his wife and four children. He has been one of the longest serving civil servants in the district.

The deceased official died instantly on October 18 after his vehicle was hit by a Tanzanian registered wide-load truck at Munyinya Junction, on the Butare-Kigali highway.

Police has arrested the Tanzanian truck driver, Ally Abdalah Lupinda, who was involved in the accident. He was arrested on his way to Kigali after the fatal accident.

Similar accidents have claimed other leaders in the past including Supt. Fulgence Gatari, the former District Police Commander of Nyaruguru and Major. Faustin Nkurunziza, alias Kalampenge in 2007.
