Tunisian midfielder Mohamed Chelly arrived in Kigali on Friday, June 27, where is expected sign for Rayon Sports on a reported two-year deal.
Chelly and Lotfi Azouz who is also believed to have agreed to becoming assistant coach to new head coach Lotfi Afahmia, arrived at Kigali International Airport on Friday, June 27, aboard Ethiopian Airlines.
They are expected to start preparations of the 2025/26 season of Rwanda Premier League with the rest of the squad on Monday, June 30. The new season will commence on August 15.
Little is known about Chelly who was playing for Tunisian second tier club Oceano Club De Kerkennah but Afhamia, who is also back from vacation, said his talent could surprise many, especially those who may be doubting his ability.
"He is a good player; I think he will surprise people. He is not very well-known in Tunisia but he is talented. I trust him, I have observed him enough and you will see that he is a good player,” Afahmia told the press.
Chelly comes few days after Rayon also received Algerian, Rayane Hamouimeche, who recently arrived at the club for trials.
Meanwhile, Lotfi brought his assistant Lotfi Azouz who he said is a good coach who will help him achieve his ambitions at Rayon Sports.
"I know Azouz well and we worked together and he is a good trainer and he is a good coach with experience and I think he will help us.”
CAF recently announced that teams participating in the African tournaments must have assistant coaches with at least CAF License A. When asked about Azouz qualifications, Lofti said, "He hold license B and the CAF regulations were issued when he had already signed the contract. They are aware of it, now he is allowed to work for two years with license B.”
